Enjoy a night at the opera
Grange Park Opera
Acclaimed for superb singing, outstanding conducting and magnificent stage sets, for 7 weeks, from the end of May to mid-July, Grange Park runs a program of four productions and has quickly established itself as one of the major music festivals in Europe’s operatic summer season. Enjoy a world-class production in an intimate 550-seat state-of-the-art theatre built within a 18th century conservatory in one of the most celebrated neo-classical mansions in Britain.
Grange Park is a 8 min drive from The Woolpack.
Enjoy a nature walk
Micheldever Wood & Blackwood Forest
Our corner of Hampshire is rich with untouched natural beauty including the Micheldever Wood & Blackwood Forest. Alive with flora and fauna, here you will find Fallow deer, Roe deer and hares among the large maturing beech wood and conifer trees. Arrive in the spring and you will be treated to a stunning bluebell display.

Our friends at Fuschia Therapy offer holistic treatments including deep tissue, Swedish, hot stone, sports and Indian head massages by a fully qualified ITEC therapist. Enjoy some historic architecture
In just 20 minutes, you can find yourself in the beautiful and historic city of Winchester and marvel at one of the largest gothic cathedrals in Europe. Take a tour of the magnificent library, the exquisite 14th century oak carved choir stalls, the soaring medieval stained glass windows and the archways of the crypt highlighted by a statue by British sculptor Antony Gormley. For five weeks over the Christmas period, the inner close of the cathedral is even turned into a large open air ice rink – perfect for your romantic Christmas break.
Enjoy a ride on a steam train
Take a journey on a carefully restored steam train through the scenic Hampshire countryside. The Mid-Hants Railway departs from New Alresford stopping in Ropley, famous for their spectacular topiary, before taking a steep climb to the picturesque country station at Medstead & Four Marks, the highest station in the South of England and ending in the busy market town of Alton. Enjoy a pint on the ‘Real Ale Trains’ which run on select Saturdays, you can even enjoy a Sunday lunch or afternoon tea on select catered trains.
Enjoy some retail therapy
Only 10 minutes from The Woolpack lies Alresford, a handsome Georgian town of colour-washed houses and riverside walks offering plenty of retail therapy. From the traditional shops you would expect from a small market town to luxury boutiques, art galleries, specialist food stores, antiques and interiors shops, there is sure to be something for everyone. When you are ready for a break, the charming tea rooms and cafes are the perfect place for a relaxing pit stop.
